Even though it's still cold in most parts of the country, the fashion world has turned the corner to spring. Most of us are not quite ready for full on floral, but our winter wardrobes could use a refresh. Today we're profiling high quality basics in a neutral palette that lean toward warmer weather. All are easy to wear now and will go the distance as the seasons change.
These jeans by AMO are really cool. We love the high waist and the cropped leg combo. Perfect for this time of year with a boot as shown, and great in warmer weather with a sandal. We would wear these with any of the tops in this post.
Every closet needs a few great white shirts. This one by Vince is a study in versatility. It's like a blank canvas you can wear in so many ways: full length over a slim pant, half-tucked into any pant, fully tucked into a high waisted pant, tied in the front with a fun skirt. Roll up the sleeves, pop the collar, and you're ready to go. You can even throw it in your luggage to wear over a bathing suit.
These Vince pants are both useful and chic year-round options. The cigarette pant on the left is a little more structured and tailored and just a bit more dressed up. On the right, the cropped flare has a side zip and is a little more casual. This particular piece is flattering because of its smooth waist (no buttons!). Both would work well with all of the tops in this post.
A.L.C. makes this terrific T shirt in black and white. It's a full step up from your typical T shirt with its cool balloon sleeves. Buy now to wear all spring. In addition to wearing it straight out or tucked, you can put a skinny black belt over the black T to dress it up.
Think of this silk slip dress by Apiece Apart as a year-round piece. Wear it with a boot like the model and add a jacket on top (see below for a super chic cropped tuxedo version). A denim jacket would also be a fun layer and an easy way to dress it down. In warmer weather, wear it with a sandal out to dinner.
Introducing our investment piece of the week. The hunt for a good cropped tuxedo jacket is very real. They are impossible to find and yet they go with so much and really make an outfit. The one above from Nili Lotan is pricey, but it's a forever piece and will be a workhorse year after year in any closet.
These slip-on sneakers from Vince are basically mandatory. They have a little platform and are reasonably priced. An every day shoe, they will take you through the fall. We also love this little belt bag by Parker Clay. Wear it cross-body (see the Parker Clay site for photos) when you don't want to carry much or when you're traveling. We like the black and the olive.
