End of summer vibes

The calendar is inching toward fall, but September weather still feels a lot like summer. It's the right time for a few new lightweight pieces that wear well now and will be equally good as the weather turns.

These three Nili Lotan jackets are wardrobe investments that will last way longer than Covid. Each will be chic in its own way as we head into fall, but also relevant next spring and beyond. With so much socializing going on outdoors, having a great jacket to throw on top of your fall layers is key, whether you're ready to get out of your sweatpants or not. Denim jacket. White trench. Khaki trench.

The perfect white tank is an elusive beast. Here are two excellent choices that we picked up recently - and both would be perfect under the Nili Lotan jackets above. The Bandier tank on the left (and pictured on the model) runs true to size. It has a racer back (naturally flattering) and good coverage in the underarm area. This one will be particularly good under blazers since it's nicely fitted. The Rag & Bone tank on the left is a beautiful soft cotton with an oversized fit and a (naturally flattering) V neck. It runs very large - size down at least one, if not two, sizes.

Nili Lotan makes these two terrific pieces that are perfect for now and for layering later. Wear the slouchy striped tee with jeans and a trench or denim jacket. It's a classic style but with an updated shape in a high quality fabric. A little French chic for fall.

The white shirt is another classic done right. Each little detail has been perfected, including the button placement and elongated cuff. Own the sheer fabric by wearing a colored bra underneath - a little sex appeal during a very unsexy time! Sign up for the NL newsletter for 10 percent off.

If you're looking for a shirt for high-waisted jeans and pants (they're not easy to find), this piece by Apiece Apart is it. It's bloused at the waist so it ends in the perfect spot. Love the pretty elbow sleeve. This would also be great with a high-waisted pencil skirt.

The cropped french military pant on top by Nili Lotan is the equivalent of a cool track pant - a step up in style, but still super casual. The cut is forgiving and the fabric has a nice little stretch to it, but the sizing runs a touch small. If you're in between, go up a size. We love this whiskey color with navy. Wear these with a shoe boot or Birkenstock or sneakers.

We've profiled the Apiece Apart Merida pant before because it's just that good. It's now available in this amazing blue color that looks super chic with white or black. Note: these are cut narrow. They're best if you have a smaller waist.

And check out this cool, white, linen/cotton pant, also by Apiece Apart. They are very comfortable and a good way to keep up a summer vibe heading into fall. They look amazing with cream as pictured.

To end, here's a quick round up of shoes we like.

The brown Clergerie heels at top left are full on summer. Jen loves a solid, rather than dainty, heel with a wide leg or cigarette pant or with summer dresses. These would be lovely with a monochrome outfit in black or white. Just not white jeans :)

You know we love a good Birkenstock and this blue color is just fun (a Goop exclusive). Treat it like a neutral. We love it with an all-navy outfit for a tone on tone look.

Finally, this Veja high-top is like a classic Converse but without the teen boy vibe. Leave the top piece unlaced. These would be really cute with the Nili Lotan military pant above and they won't break the bank.
