Putting it all together

Updated: Oct 4, 2019

One thing Jen's clients love is when she helps them select a small capsule of pieces that can be worn together in infinite ways. Today, we're profiling twelve items (all available online now) and showing you how to put them together into multiple chic outfits. This concept of putting it all together is something we'll be revisiting from time to time on the blog. It's a way to get the most out of your investment in great pieces of clothing, while keeping your look fresh.

Nili Lotan is a designer who may not be on your radar. Israeli-born and New York-based, she uses high quality materials to make great basics with a twist. This stretchy denim blazer is super versatile - think of it like a jean jacket, but with a little more style.

The best part of this Nili Lotan cami dress (shown in navy here, but the black or olive are terrific too) is that it can be worn dressy or casual. Best for those who don't mind showing off their figures and wearing a strapless bra.

This easy ribbed, black cashmere cardigan by Vince is a great layering piece or nice on its own. It's 25% off for the next few days on the Vince site with code BYINVITE19.

Another great piece from Nili Lotan - this wool vest is a terrific wardrobe addition. A vest takes an ordinary outfit and steps it up several notches. This one is a beautiful quality with a great pattern. We'll show you how to wear it several ways below, but the way it's shown in the photo with its accompanying deeply V-necked striped shirt is also lovely.

Nili Lotan's cotton voile shirt is an easy, lightweight, sexy button down. The buttons are placed perfectly so there's the right hint of cleavage. Lovely on its own or layered.

We showed these J. Crew button front jeans on the blog last week in blue and here they are in a charcoal wash. We love everything about this pant. It's super flattering and the right price.

This J. Crew corduroy jean is the same cut at the button front above, but without the buttons and the frayed hem. If you buy one corduroy pant for fall, this is it.

This easy white collarless viscose popover top is also by J. Crew. It has a gathered sleeve, which is a nice detail, and the fabric is light and airy so it works well as a layer.

Isabel Marant makes a beautiful and ubiquitous shoe boot called the Dicker for $560. A great alternative is the one pictured here by Frye for half the price and still a great quality. This is an everyday winner that can be worn with jeans, dresses, skirts - you name it.

These Steve Madden high tops have a hidden wedge that give you a little boost and are so much more comfortable than wearing heels. We love them in camo but they come in tons of colors.

To accessorize the capsule, this chain-link Ben-Amun necklace (20% off right now with Neiman Marcus code NMJEWEL) is an affordable bit of bling and comes in silver as well as gold. It sits right where you want it to sit - perfect for a V-neck sweater or button-up shirt. An alternative is this easy J. Crew necklace that appears to be two in one and looks great for when you need a long necklace.

Below are our ideas for how to put these pieces together in a way that keeps them feeling new all season long. [Outfits read horizontally].
